Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 summer program was delayed to the summer of 2021. Because travel conditions will not be completely safe in Mexico by then, the program will be virtual. The ten Penn students that originally qualified to partake have been invited back to participate, and more students are welcome to join. Email us at [email protected] if you are interested in taking part!
About the program:
It will be scheduled over 5 days (June 21-25th 2021) and it will have a more in depth look at Isla Urbana's work, topics of sustainability, community organizing, building leadership skills and what it means to be a change agent in your community and abroad. It will be an interactive educational experience with professional videos, live on the ground reporting, real time online tools so that students can break out in work groups, present and be more active in their participation. It will last a few hours a day with time during the week for you to meet with an assigned mentee and other students. The program is meant to inspire active reflection, planning, and questioning.
